Food Chain

Food Chain

A fun running game that introduces the concept of the food chain. It allows children to have fun while understanding the relationships between living things in nature. The game should be played outdoors.

Objective of the Activity

leaf To help children understand the food chain,

leaf To develop teamwork and strategy skills,

leaf To raise awareness of the relationships between living things in nature.

The Game

Children are assigned roles: plant, herbivore, carnivore. The playing field is clearly marked. Carnivores try to catch herbivores; herbivores try to catch plants. Plants remain stationary or move only in small steps. Carnivores do not try to catch plants. In this game, strategic thinking is very important!

Players who are caught join the group of the one who caught them, thus changing their role in the food chain. The game continues until all players are in a single group or the set time runs out. At the end, the links in the food chain and the relationships between living things are discussed.

Rules:

leaf Each player must follow the movement style of their assigned role.

leaf Players who are caught must immediately join their new group according to the rules.

leaf Do not leave the playing area and always follow safety rules.

Attention!

The playing area should be safe, and the risk of falling or collisions while running should be minimized.

The roles given to children (plant, herbivore, carnivore) should be explained in a way that is appropriate for their age group, using simple language that everyone can understand.

Over time, instead of just “plant,” you can use examples such as “grass,” an “horse” that eats grass, and a “bear” that can eat the horse. This helps children better understand which animals eat what.
