Summary's Summary

This game is suitable for all levels of education. The educational game "Summary of the Summary of the Summary" aims to enhance students' educational, reading, and comprehension skills. The game is played in groups within the classroom, where groups compete against each other to produce the most accurate summary.

 

Objectives of the Activity:

The Game

The teacher divides the students into groups of 3 or 5, depending on the class size. Each group is given a story / scientific information / a topic to read. The groups are required to summarize the given text in 50 words on a blank page.

After all groups finish their summaries, the summary papers are randomly redistributed among the groups. This time, they are asked to summarize their assigned summaries in 30 words on the same paper.

Once all groups complete the second round of summarizing, the summary papers are shuffled again and redistributed. Now, they need to summarize the 30-word summaries in 20 words on the same paper.

Next, the 20-word summaries are compared with the original text. Groups that accurately summarize according to the original text earn points. The group with the most points wins the game.

 

Rules:

leaf Groups earn points sequentially for summaries: 20 points for 50-word summary, 15 points for 30-word summary, and 10 points for 20-word summary.

leaf Only the group that wrote the 50-word summary can see the original text. Other groups cannot see the original text.

leaf Summaries that do not match the original text do not earn points.

In this game, various works can be used.

The points earned by the groups can be totaled to determine the winner at the end of a period (weekly, monthly, etc.).

If desired, the teacher can award additional points or deduct penalty points based on presentation, grammar, and other criteria.
