Walnut Toss

Walnut Toss

Play Area: Schoolyard or open space

Materials Needed: 30 walnuts or 30 walnut-sized stones

Game Duration: Can be extended as desired.

The Game

Illustration of walnut tossing game into a pit from a line

Players first dig a pit large enough to hold 30 walnuts (or walnut-sized stones). A line is drawn about 1 meter away from the pit, and all players line up behind this line. At the start, the 30 walnuts or stones are divided equally among the players.

Each player, on their turn, throws as many of their walnuts as they want into the pit from behind the line. Any walnuts that do not fall into the pit and land outside are returned to the player, but they must go to the back of the line to throw them again.

The game continues this way. The first player to get rid of all their walnuts wins the game. The winner becomes the owner of all the walnuts collected in the pit.
