Which One Is Missing?
Which One Is Missing?
This game is a fun activity that develops memory and observation skills without requiring much running. At the same time, it provides a gentle introduction to early math skills such as patterns and sequencing.
Purpose of the Activity
To develop memory and attention skills,
To support observation, comparison, and reasoning skills,
To introduce awareness of patterns/sequencing,
To spark interest in learning with natural materials.
The Game
Each child collects different natural objects from the garden (e.g., stick, leaf, stone, flower, pinecone). Five selected objects are placed side by side on a flat surface.
One child closes their eyes or turns their back. The teacher/leader quietly removes one of the objects.
The child opens their eyes and tries to guess which object is missing. A correct guess earns one point.
Options to increase difficulty: (1) Add more objects, (2) Remove more than one object in the same round, (3) Mix up the remaining objects after removing one, (4) Ask the child to rearrange the objects back into their original order after mixing.

Rules:
The guessing child carefully examines the order of the objects before closing their eyes.
Silence must be maintained while removing objects; no hints are given.
The difficulty level is adjusted according to the age group (extra objects, multiple removals, rearranging sequences).
Attention!
When collecting objects from nature, no harm should be done to living things; no branches should be broken, only fallen materials should be chosen.
For allergy and safety reasons, unknown plants or thorny objects should not be touched; hands must be cleaned after the activity.
