12 Outside Activities for Children

12 Outside Activities for Children

Tablets, screens, four walls... Yes, these are the things that consume modern children’s entire day. But we all know that children actually love being outside, running around, touching the soil, and feeling the breeze much more. And we adults often forget that we, too, were once children.

Outdoor games are not just about fun—they also mean movement, exploration, and learning. Moreover, such activities support children's physical development and enhance their social skills. But saying “Go play outside” is not enough... They need inspiring games and enjoyable activities to do together.

Things to Pay Attention To:

We are sure that, as an instructor, you are well aware of all the important considerations. However, we wanted to compile a few key points for you below as a reminder.

1. Surface Safety The activity area should be flat and non-slippery. If possible, grass or soil should be preferred. On concrete surfaces, protective gear such as knee and elbow pads should be used.

2. Weather Check The weather forecast should be checked before the activity. Activities should be postponed or moved to a suitable location in cases of extreme heat, cold, or rainy days.

3. Sun Protection On sunny days, hats should be worn, sunscreen should be applied, and rest breaks in the shade should be provided. Be sure to drink plenty of water.

4. Material Safety All materials used should be safe for children. Avoid sharp, cutting, or small objects that could be swallowed. Natural materials should be checked in advance.

5. Group Supervision and Boundaries The boundaries of the play area should be clearly explained to the children. In large groups, there should be a sufficient number of adult supervisors.

6. First Aid Preparation A basic first aid kit should always be available. Dressing supplies should be easily accessible in case of minor injuries.

7. Appropriate Clothing Children should wear comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing. Shoes should be closed-toe and have non-slip soles. Clothing that can get dirty should be preferred.

8. Informing the Children Before the activity, rules and safety precautions should be explained to the children in a simple and clear manner. Safety rules are just as important as the game!

Have fun!
